Signal Years of Retreat 1943-44: Hitler's Wartime Picture Magazine (1978) By S. L. Mayer

SIGNAL was the most widely circulated magazine in Europe during the Second World War. It was meant for the consumption of the peoples of occupied Europe to show them the excellent conditions of life in Germany and the power and might of German armed forces in Europe and North Africa.

The English-language edition was published from 1940 to 1944.

This concludes the coverage of Hilter's Wartime Picture Magazine, "Signal" continued to be published in English until the editorial offices in Paris were abruptly closed when France was liberated in July 1944. It is a rare and hitherto unpublished collection of photographs with text. Editors realized that with few victories to report, exaggeration of what little good news there was for Germany appeared with outright untruths about "advances" in the collapsoing North African or Italian Front.
