IT was a perfect night for the airstrike led by Flying Officer Larry Burke and Pilot Officer Bob Sterling in a wild attempt to sink the mighty Jap battleship IKASAWA as it lay at anchor.
 
 
 
But unfortunately, the Japs had been tipped off. The alert, disciplined Jap A.A. gun crews were waiting, the short, stubby barrels of the quick-firing guns pointing skywards, ready to take their flaming toll.
 
 
 
The Lancaster with Larry and Bob aboard bought it that night, and the scrapes that this terrible pair got into after they hit the drink were enough to make a nervous wreck of every Jap who ever went to war.
