Made in Panavision and Metrocolor and produced by Herb Jaffe and Phil Rawlins, the film was loosely based on the real-life Perdicaris affair of 1904. The film was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and distributed in the U.S. by United Artists and internationally by Columbia Pictures.
